FRUGAL STUDENT

Money Saving Tips

Fatima Qadeer is frugal by nature and she always looks for deals and ways for college students to save money.  She found student status pays off in unexpected ways. For example, banks want your business and offer students free checking. Similarly, cell phone companies want you to choose them and offer substantial student discounts.  You can also get discounts on software and many colleges and universities provide free anti-virus software.  It’s even possible to get a break when your taxes are  prepared by a legitimate company or C.P.A.   Some of these discounts may not be obvious, or advertised so it’s a good idea to ask before you plunk down cash.  Fatima’s advice don’t be shy.  Just ask.

Employer Tuition Assistance

The Frugal Student Matthew Vann investigates unusual places to find money to help you pay for college. He discovers that some low-paying jobs that you might turn down offer perks to ease your student loan debt while you work and go to school.  Matthew found the companies that are hiring and offer scholarships or tuition assistance to part-time and full-time employees.  McDonald’s, Verizon, TMobile and Home Depot top the list. There’s a also a tax benefit for you if your employer helps out.
